Backgammon Mock Betting for Fun

Some players prefer to risk real stakes when playing backgammon. But we can play backgammon for fun and take some risks, too, without losing real money. How do we do this?

When playing backgammon on a traditional board (or non-online board) we can experience taking risks and wagering without risking real money. We may use chips or consequences as penalties for losing in the game. With this method we have the fun, risk, and excitement in the game and even try doubling challenges.

Backgammon must be played with something at stake. This serves as an impetus to do better than the opponent and to strive at winning backgammon. There must ne a reward and punishment scheme to keep both players serious about winning. Without this impetus the game will be boring.

Later, we may assign some sort of rewards in kind for the player with the most chips and also assign penalties for the loser.

With this fun system we may even use the doubling cube to "up the stakes." When the game is over and a player emerges the first to bear off all pieces we may allow the wining player to decide on a penalty for the loser as a consequence of losing in the game. The reward of the winner is in the fun of having the "authority" to assign penalties.

We may also have a prize in kind for the winner and a house chore for the loser. In this way, the risks are as good as monetary wagers because each player is sure to perform in the best way possible.

Thus, when we play backgammon for fun we also learn the rules and basic strategies in the game and feel the thrill of winning and the consequence of losing.
