Why Not Join Backgammon Clubs and Tournaments?

Backgammon is an exciting game of strategy, conquest, and a race of who finishes first. But we get more fun from backgammon if we join clubs and tournaments. We meet a whole new world of backgammon enthusiasts and professionals.

More and more backgammon enthusiasts form clubs and similar organizations or groups, land-based or online, for social functions and further promotion of the game. There are local clubs that organize casual meetings in private places, cafes, club houses, and bars. Most of them meet evenings for plays and socializing.

There are also other backgammon clubs that do more than just play the game and socialize. They have even incorporated other functions, like conducting lectures, basic and advanced, for all interested parties. Some even go to the extent of having their own permanent place and facilities—everything for adding fun to backgammon.

There are backgammon outfits, online or otherwise, that offer backgammon computer software, analysis, and tips for playing complex backgammon situations on the board. In fact, according to some club and organizational leaders there has been a rise in the popularity and interest in the game worldwide—thanks to backgammon online to which they impute most of the credit.

To add more fun from backgammon games, tournament plays have been formed. Widely known among these tournament games is backgammon chouette. This version allows more than two players to actually play the game—thus, more chances for interaction, fellowship, and fun. They do this at times with a money reward.

One participant may play against a whole team from other players. Here, positions rotate so that all player get a chance to enjoy an advantage. Another exciting feature of a chouette is the thrilling and challenging option for multiple doubling cubes.

Hence, many backgammon associations and clubs often offer tournaments to members and even would-be members to attract other enthusiasts to the membership and to promote the game. What could be more effective promotion than to add more fun? Thus, so far, a lot of people are drawn to competitions not just from the localities but from other regions as well.

From the regional level winners are entered into the national and even international championships. The real catch is to win in international backgammon contests where the prizes at stake sometimes total thousands of dollars. Once, in a Bahamas backgammon tournament held in 2006, an actual US $1 million was at stake.

To get more fun from backgammon join a club and often consider participating in tournaments. It can be fun and rewarding, financially.
